Rio Negro, the clear mountain stream near the Velasquez Family Coffee Farm. It is also the name of the rural community where the farm is located. Rio Negro (Black River) gets its name from the clear nature of its water in contrast to Rio Blanco (White River) nearby that has cloudy water because of high mineral content of the rocks it runs through. This beautiful water fall is one of our favorite places in the whole world.
Our coffee is grown under the canopy of the forest. This provides important habitat for birds, reduces erosion and the cooler temperatures create a better tasting coffee berry too.
